Eye examinations for children

We understand that booking an eye test for your child can feel like a big step, especially if it’s their first visit, so we do everything we can to make the experience calm, friendly and reassuring.

Good eye care plays an important role in your child’s overall health, learning and confidence, and regular eye examinations help us support their development as they grow.

When should my child have an eye test?

Children should have regular eye examinations, even if they don’t complain about their vision. Many children don’t realise they are not seeing clearly, as they assume everyone sees the same way they do.

An eye test can help identify:

  • Vision problems that may affect reading or schoolwork
  • Eye conditions that may not show obvious symptoms
  • Changes in eyesight as your child grows

If you have any concerns about your child’s eyes or vision, it’s always best to have them checked.

What happens during a children’s eye examination?

Our optometrists are experienced in caring for children and explain everything in simple, child-friendly language. The eye test is relaxed and tailored to your child’s age and confidence.

We check how well your child can see, how their eyes work together and their overall eye health. There are no scary tests, and parents are welcome to stay with their child throughout the appointment.

Is my child’s eye test free on the NHS?

Yes. NHS eye examinations are available for children, and most children are entitled to a free NHS eye test. If your child needs glasses, NHS optical vouchers are also available to help towards the cost of frames and lenses. We will explain everything clearly, so you understand what support is available and what choices you have.

Children’s glasses and frames

If glasses are needed, we offer a range of comfortable, practical and stylish frames for children. We help your child choose frames they feel happy wearing, while making sure they fit well and are suitable for everyday use.

Our team is always happy to advise parents on lens options and durability, keeping both comfort and value in mind.
